There are front-runners drawn low, middle and high. Twilight Calls (second choice) did well to win from where he was at Newmarket and he's one of a few chances for the Richard Spencer yard, together with Rapper's Delight and Run Boy Run. The return of Oisin Murphy heightens interest in Adrestia who was second in this last year, and her latest run at Royal Ascot wasn't as bad as it may appear. The suggestion is SEVEN QUESTIONS who came from the clouds to nail Dyonisos on the line over C&D in May and has been ridden differently in his last two races. With a strong pace guaranteed, he might be able to deliver a telling late charge. Vintage Clarets can also feature.[Alistair Jones] Show less
Spotlight: Progressive front-runner who was denied late on in the Dash at Epsom (5f, good to soft; has won on good to firm) in early June; he'll give backers a run for their money but could again be picked off where it matters.
Spotlight: Classy sprinter back in the day and the new visor has been floating his boat with recent form figures of 121 in 5f handicaps, latterly getting up in the nick of time at Newmarket; only 3lb higher and this hold-up performer should have this run to suit; finished fifth in last year's Stewards' Cup, faring best in his group; firmly in calculations.
Spotlight: Royal Ascot handicap winner last year (5f, good to firm) and later went close in this race when 3lb higher; yet to get competitive this term but could have needed the comeback run, there were blindfold issues next time and she ran well for a long way at Ascot 17 days ago before eased considerably late on; drawn next to the stands' rail and a revival is not out of the question with form figures of 132 under the returning Oisin Murphy; tongue tied last two races.
Spotlight: Made all in last season's Ayr Gold Cup (6f, soft) and competes off the same mark here after taking Toby Moore's claim into account; won over 5f at Meydan during the winter and gave it a good shot last time at Ascot (5f); finished fourth in last year's Stewards' Cup so handles this track; respected.
Spotlight: Last season went well and so too this current campaign for new trainer with 5f wins on good to soft (handles faster) and Tapeta; may not have reached his ceiling just yet and has been third and first in his two runs here.
Spotlight: An 8yo mare but as good as ever and close up in 5f handicaps this season at this track, Windsor and Ascot; in the mix.
Spotlight: Well beaten in the last two editions of the Stewards' Cup here but won from off the pace over C&D in May, leading on the line under a Jamie Spencer masterclass; barely sighted in his two subsequent runs (soft/AW; ridden more prominently) but, back in this scenario with a strong pace guaranteed, he could easily be a factor if reverting to patient tactics.
Spotlight: Yet another prominent racer; in good form since returning from a break but appeared to be beaten fair and square behind some of these at Newmarket's July meeting.
Spotlight: Novice winner who is threatening to win his first handicap having been denied narrowly this month by Naana's Sparkle and Twilight Calls; a late bump didn't help his cause last time at Newmarket and the visor (on for last three races) is working well; possibilities.
Spotlight: Ex-French; didn't get the best of runs when pipped by Seven Questions here in May and overcame some bother in running to go one better at Doncaster last time (5f, good to firm); 4lb rise is fair and this sort of race should suit his style.
Spotlight: Group 1-class sprinter at his best but it's been a struggle this season since an encouraging start at Listed level and he now has his sights lowered for a first crack at a handicap; has a lot of weight and perhaps better at 6f than 5f.
Spotlight: Back from a break and wind surgery when impressive in a big field at York in May 2024 (5f, good to firm; 7lb lower); however, failed to fire at Meydan this year and was again down the field at Newcastle a month ago; cheekpieces replace a hood.
Spotlight: Two no-shows at Goodwood were at this meeting in 2023, including this race; however, provided the track doesn't pose any problems, he could be interesting after strong finishes in the Dash at Epsom and last time at Chester where a slow start was the last thing he needed; he should be coming home to some effect.
Spotlight: Made the most of a drop in grade to edge home in a Class 4 at York 18 days ago (5f, good to firm) and went up only 3lb for that; however, he's by no means certain to repeat that effort and he lacks course experience.
Spotlight: Front-runner; 3lb lower than for his runaway win at Haydock last September (5f, good) but hasn't got a lot going in his last four races and was tailed off in Epsom's Dash, in which he was second in 2024; others preferred.
Spotlight: Came good off a reduced mark at Doncaster in June (5f, good to firm) but two lesser efforts have followed and this is a tough race in which to bounce back.
Spotlight: Made all at Chester this spring and always prominent when narrowly denied in a small field at Sandown latest (5f, good; second run in cheekpieces); probably worth taking on, with consistency not his forte.
Spotlight: All wins over 6f (on soft and good ground) and he's 0-5 at 5f; can lead; 5lb higher than when winning the Ayr Silver Cup (soft) last September but Jack Callan claims 3lb and forget Ascot last month as he bled from the nose; however, at this trip others are preferred.
Spotlight: Played his part in a strong pace last time at York yet hung around to finish a half-length behind winner Ziggy's Triton; has little margin for error off this mark and other pace influences temper enthusiasm.
Spotlight: Disappointing favourite two months ago at Windsor and, although only 3lb higher than when a clearcut winner back in the spring (5f, soft; fine on good), this demands a career best from him.
Spotlight: All three wins and best form have been on the AW, delivering a career high at Newcastle in January (5f AW); lower turf mark sees him 2lb higher here but he is 0-11 on grass and lacks a recent run.
Spotlight: Has added to his impressive tally with two further 5f wins this season but recent defeats suggest others might be on kinder marks.
Spotlight: Exposed ten-time winner who was down the field in this 12 months ago when 1lb higher; won at Ripon this month (no headgear) before finishing fifth of seven 11 days ago at Pontefract (visored); a long time since he wore blinkers.
Spotlight: Ended a losing run in a Class 4 at Windsor (6f, good to firm) last month but only fourth of seven when penalised at Epsom; well beaten in his two visits here.
